I am wondering if I can have 2 display cards in a 1997 Compaq Presario 5000. There is a ProSavage S3 soldered to the motherboard. [Even if there is a way, I don't plan on taking that out.] I'm not willing to spend $100s of $, so I will get a cheap card.
I tried to put an ATI Rage in it, but then none of the cards would work. Please Help!

Probably your computer system does not support your ATi Rage. Check first the recommended sytem requirements of your ATi Rage. Install the driver. Reboot. For proper installation of VGA card, make sure that your computer is off when you insert the VGA card into the AGP slot. connect the monitor to the VGA card. when you turn on you computer, windows will automatically detect the card. follow the wizard, insert the disc containing the driver. if this doesn't work, you might need some adjustment in the CMOS. But most probably your system doesn't support it.

No, it's not possible to use a 1997 computer with two display cards. Back then, they only use ISA/PCI, and also consider that their motherboards don't support CrossFire or SLI, since the technology is new.

Hi. Depending on your OS you must disable the on board video before you can use an ISA or PCI video card. Assuming Win95, "Start> Settings> Control Panel> Device manager>". Right click on the video device and disable. Good luck!

By the time you mod that 1997 machine you could have bought two powerful desktops being manufactured today.
