A great way to improve is to learn some music theory- and then apply it to songs. So, get yourself a music theory book, learn about scales, chords, and how they fit together. Then play some Beatles songs- easy ones - and you'll see them in a new light. Then you should try writing your own tunes- it's very rewarding. Good luck.

Get the magazine "Play Guitar!"....it's awesome. It's for beginners and explians it in "non technical" terms. It even transcribes cool songs that beginners can play, with a bit of practice. Google it and check out their webpage. I just got a subscription. I think they are fairly new as they only have 4 issues a year right now, but it's great for beginning guitarists.
