I have REALLY tiny white insects that I just noticed in my tree frog's habitat. If you make a dot with a pen on a piece of paper, they are about half of that size. I think they are insects, they look like they have six legs. They don't look dangerous or harmful, and they aren't any where besides the tank (I checked my whole bedroom.) How do you think they got in there? Maybe from the feeder crickets? Are they harmful or helpful (harmful- cause damage to frog, helpful- clean up cage) and should I get rid of them (and how).
Thank you to whoever can give me any information, it's very appreciated! =]

Oh yes, I know what your talking about. All my pet rodents and my lizzard have gotten these mites, and they really are quite annoying. You can get rid of them by buying mite spray, which they sell in most, if not all, petstores. Since your pet is a frog, though I would ask your local petstore if this spray would be safe because frogs skin is very absorbant and the chemical spray could be harmful.

As for how dangerous the mites are, they're only mildly daangerous. Most of my pets were unaffected, though they might make them itch. My friend's guinea pig got mites which caused it to itch until it got a huge infection on it's back, which eventually killed it. Those might've been a different kind of mite, though. Hopefully getting the spray will take care of it. Good luck!

You can do a very thorough clean of you cage. And I mean gut it COMPLETELY. Take everything out of there. Then, soak the tank in hot bleached water(for about 15-30min). You should also do this with any ornaments that you use to decorate the tank. Then, scrub with soap, rinse, and you will have a clean tank.

As for your frog...I don't know how good of swimmers they are....But you should try to submerge as much of the body of the repile as possible(without it drowning of course). This way, the mites that are on the frog will drown.

They don't sound like mites. Mites don't like humid places like where a frog would live. They aren't dangerous to your frog. They just appear there when there is waste in your frogs tank. It is sort of like flies except they don't fly. Just keep your tank really clean and whenever you see messes from your frog or from dead crickets clean it up immediately so they don't come back. Over haul your tank and clean everything out to get rid of them. All they do is live off wastes. Anything else just let me know.

They are mites. I would talk to a petstore rep. to see if there is a way of getting rid of them so they won't harm your frog and multiply and have tons of mites around.

mites they bite your animals and can give them diseases go to a petstore or vet and they should tell you what to do, it usually involves a full cleaning and disinfecting the tank and everything in it with a disinfectant you can buy at most petstores. they could be from the food and they can be from substrate in the tank, it can also be from just not maintaining the tank properly Good Luck.
