I have this problem from time to time to. I find that the best prevention is to make sure the shirt sleeves are out how they are supposed to be prior to washing them. Then, when you move them from the washer to the dryer, take another look at them and make sure they are still out. The spin cycle does nasty things to clothes.

Also, don't overload the washer & dryer becuase things get tangled together and twisted up into knots in the dryer especially. Try using those "fluffer balls" as well, that will help a little.

I ve been washing clothes for over 50 years, and in my opinion the machines that I have used through out the years that did the best job and did NOT tie my clothes in knots are the older models, these newer machines tie clothes in knots and ruin clothes, they don t clean at all, waste what little bit of water they use, and end up smelling nasty after a few months, AND then people end up smelling like the bottom of a very dirty clothes hamper. Granted part of the left over smell on clothes is in part due to the H.E detergent.

You might be overloading the washing machine. If there isn't enough room for the clothes to swish around freely, they get all tangled up and cause the knots.

Try making smaller loads.

You may have too little water in the tub or too many clothes. Did you ever try washing the shirts inside out with the sleeves still inside the shirt instead of being free to tangle? Good luck, Carol

Some people believe that it's the same gremlin that steals your socks one at a time.

It could be that you didn't have the socks they've wanted all along and retaliated by tying your shirts into knots.
