I like wearing black and listening to medal, but my mom doesn't like it. My friend is gothic and said I should becume gothic to. I've been gothic for a week now, and I really like it. It's bettter than having to dress a way I don't want to. I still like a little bit of hip hop music, though. Does that mean I can't be gothic? What more do I have to do to be a true goth??

I would not worry about what it is to be "gothic." It's just a term. Just dress the way you feel comfortable. If that happens to be in all black, go for it. Don't feel like you are contricted to wearing or doing certain things. Isn't that what you are trying to avoid anyway? Listen to whatever kind of music you want. If someone doesn't think you are gothic because you like to listen to a little Justin Timberlake every once in a while, **** them. Be yourself. People will try to put labels on you but I suggest ignoring them.

I doubt whether you OR your friend is a Goth - you`re EMO.
Goth is a way of life not the wearing of black and medal (whatever that is LOL).
True Goths derive their fashion from what was worn by those living during the early 19th century and would just as likely be seen wearing red or purple - I know I was there when real Goths were around (the early 1980s).
Music is secondary ,it`s true that some wore black makeup on white faces and/or dyed their hair black ,however most I knew didn`t.Yes we listened to what was termed Goth music - The Sisters Of Mercy ,The Cult ,The Mission etc. but those bands never considered themselves Goths.
A friend told me once that Goth is a state of mind not a fashion - I agree.Far too many kids nowadays mope around listening to crappy music ,wishing they were dead ,wearing a lot of black and hating everything and everyone who doesn`t - Thank You America - but they ARE NOT Goth.

Well I'm a "gothic" type of chick. But to be a true "goth" all you need is one thing.....an interest in the darkness and dark things. There really is no certain type of dress for it, although fetish and bondage wear (like at Hot Topic) are more closely associated with it. As for the music, just dark music and a lot of metal are the kind of music "goths" listen to. You can still like hip hop and whatnot but just be yourself and don't live by other people's standards.

Who cares if your friend is goth, instead you can become punk if you like, I am punk and it feel good and I don't do it because my friends tell me to I do it because I want to. Also I like all kinds of music and the last time I checked you don't have to like a certain type of music to dress in a certain way, also, don't do things that you may regret later. Be who YOU want to be.

It's OK to like Hip-hop if you're a goth (it's OK to wear a bit of colour occasionally too). Just be happy with who you are. I class myself as a hippie, but I've never done drugs - set your own rules. If you feel gothy, be gothy.

You should be whatever you want to and like whatever you want to no matter what anyone thinks or says. Why do you have to be classified into a specifc "clique" (like gothic, or preppy, etc..) Be yourself and just be YOU without all of the labels and I promise you'll be happier.

go back before you are completely socially put out tell everyone it is a joke keep listening to rap and dress nicely goths are looked upon very badily not trying to be mean but sterotipically they are fat have deppersion problems lesbians or come to have body desmorphic disorder thats when you look fat to your self int the mirror but really your beautiful dress good talk to alot of people and crack jokes all the time

You don't have to dress a certain way just because you like a certain music. You also don't have to only like one kind of music. Just be yourself, everything else will just fall into place.

Don't FORCE yourself into being gothic. Be who you wanna be. Anywayz... it seems the only reason you wanna be gothic is becuz ur friend told u to be.
