St Johns Wort is a mild, natural remedy and has anti depresant properties. Like most prescribed pills, St Johns Wort does take a while to work but is equally as effective.
I also find that some essential oils have uplifting properties too. Citrus oils such as lemon, grapefruit and orange are particularly pleasant. Geranium and lavender are also good for anxiety and depression, as well as being great for insomnia - another symptom related to stress and depression.
I think she would benefit greatly from having a holistic treatment - Councelling, Reiki, Meditation or Aromatherapy could all prove to be useful and help her regain a sense of well being

Your mate may be depressed but is pretty smart. Drugs don't cure depression. Mental cleansing is the answer. She can't seem to find the answers and gets depressed. The answers are right in front of her but being depressed serves her goals. A friend runs a clinic in town. She complains that the majority of the patients do nothing but complain. Sounds like the blind leading the blind. The patients have adopted a philosophy called, "heal me." Your mate needs to find the answers on her own. Stop holding her hand. By the way, learn how to spell words, like "two" and "four". Your short hand english doesn't communicate well.

She may be right. I have heard reports that some people react very badly to SSRIs (like Prozac) and it can turn the suicidal or even homicidal. I also knew someone who had a similar experience. She said she had never felt worse and wanted to 'kill something'. As soon as she stopped them she was better although still depressed.
Does she eat fish? Salmon has been indicated in relieving depression as well as anxiety and OCD.
If not but she's willing to drink something, fish oil can be drunk or even eaten in a pleasant tasting pudding (Coromega).
Also there's light therapy which is especially helpful for people who have seasonal depression.
She's lucky to have you as a friend.

The most famous and reliable antiaging program on the web is called oldschoolnewbody by Steve and Becky Holman.
This system does not require a boatload on anti-aging drugs, supplements, or gimmick. They teach you how to reverse the aging process. There are specific ways to move, eat and think that tell your brain to stop the aging process and even slow it down. Id you want to know more you can check their site here http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=547

No, she has to take medication. If the meds are making her feel bad or are not working, she should talk to her GP. Some meds do take a while to "kick in". I do not believe any alternative medicines will do any good whatsoever. It`s only prescribed meds that will help. I had depression when I was 19, and it was only a sympathetic and understanding GP who sorted me out by prescribing the right drugs, and monitoring me weekly.

your friend is lucky 2 have such a good friend. There are many ways to help her. encouraging her to try new experiances/ new places like salsa dancing, night classes, climbing, etc. Finding out who you are and what you like can make a huge difference.Writing thoughts and feelings down can make everything clearer(u wouldnt think so but its amaizing what u start writing even if your head seems empty).treating herself to a new hairstyle, beauty treatment or massage can help too.eating a diet with plenty veg, fish(fish oil suplements)nuts&seeds.its best to avoid alcahol,it may feel as if it cheers her up but in the after math will confuse, worry&make her worse.talk to a councelor, who understands what your going through.encouragement is a must for your friend. you can also try aromatherapy, herbal remedys(consult doctor)&reiki.the right medication does help,it can take a while to find the right kind.some will make her worse but shell need to be aware of what to look for&how she feels.

Your friend has a point about some of these pills, but there are plenty of new anti depressants available with little or no side effects, her doctor would advise her on the best one's there is the herbal stuff but they can be costly
