Well, there are a large number of philosophers who believe that the mind's primary function is to accurately reflect a largely objective and mind-independent external reality. In fact, this has been one of the characteristic features of the Western Analytic tradition for centuries, and these thinkers are often classified as "Mirror Philosophers."

A reflection of nature. Lots of people try to design their homes around nature. Naturally, one can't have angry squirrels and fire ants running through one's living room so they there is an attempt to create things that imitate nature.
