We have LOTS better. But it's all classified.
Nasa is basically a disinformation department now. They spend as much time hiding evidence of what is out there as they spend looking for stuff. And we have our own versions now of the kind of ship that crashed at Roswell 50+ years ago.
I heard that a few years back, we lost a ship the size of a battleship in or near the sun, while engaged with an alien enemy. Even the Enquirer missed THAT one!

Yes, but it has to be cost effective. NASA isn't the military, it doesn't have billions of dollars to throw around; NASA actually has to be careful how it spends its limited money. It's the same reason every car on the road doesn't have every imaginable luxury item, people just won't pay that much money when they could have something much cheaper that does the job.

Such as ?
It has to carry a decent size and weight of payload; have sufficient life support for the astronauts; be cost-effective; and be re-usable.
The only other viable option may be the old idea of piggy-backing a smaller shuttle on the back of plane to take it close to the edge of the atmosphere.
But if you have any good ideas.....lets hear them please ?

I love science, especially astro-physics.
However, I think we need to take care of people on earth, first.
Like the families of soldiers lost in the war, and the Hurricane victims in New Orelans, and feed our hungry and poor.
Then, we can talk about more ways to spend big bucks on
the space program.
