It depends - do you like the hot, dry climate better than the cold and four seasons of Michigan. I think the economy might be better in Phoenix though. You did not mention why you were moving also?

I live in the Phoenix area for about 22 years. However, I lived in MI for 2 years as a child. There is so much stuff to do here it's not even funny. I'm within 20 minutes of 3 malls. There's every possible kind of restaurant around. There are tons of parks & the Grand Canyon is only about a 4 hour drive. Sedona, which is about a 2 hour drive is really fun to shop at. What types of things do you like to do?

As others have said, this is a drastic change in climate for you. I love the hot, dry desert climate - many people do! Sun 300+ days a year, blue skies year round and only 6 weeks of "winter."
Do we have a lot of illegals? Yes. Do many of those illegals commit crimes? Yes. Do many of those illegals have low-paying jobs that other people living in Arizona don't want to do? Yes. Are many of those illegals up at 5am or 6am doing jobs while other legals are lazily asleep (ME included!)? Yes.
It is VERY hot in July & August, especially. Temps over 110 degrees are typical. If you have never visited Phoenix during that time of year, you CAN NOT imagine how it is! But you just move from one air-conditioned box to another (your apartment to your car to your office) and it isn't so bad. After a couple of summers you will get used to the heat and might even be able to enjoy doing something like hiking or running in the desert during the middle of summer (but keep it to 1 hour or less, and drink lots of water!).
The big advantage of Phoenix is that mild, mild winter. In fact, if you come from Northern Michigan, I doubt you will even consider it cold at all!
In Phoenix, we have a lot of people from Michigan and other midwestern states, Los Angeles & NYC, too.
The job market and economy is very good. So I imagine your work opportunities will increase over that of N. Michigan. And the cost of living in Phoenix is reasonable - for now!

Arizona is beautiful... it's up to you whether you want to live in a hotter climate. You wouldn't have to worry about doing so much yardwork, and depending on where you lived, mosquitoes wouldn't be much of an issue anymore. But the dry climate is tougher on your car. Just weigh the benefits and remember that wherever you go, you're going to run into things you don't like. Alice Cooper lives in Arizona so it can't be all bad.

Brrr you must be freezing! I'm from Chicago and I love Arizona! It's beautiful almost year round, and in the hot summer we crank up the A/C and it's totally livable. So unless you find some thrill in shovelling your driveway everyday, you should definitley move to AZ!

If you like warmer climate and less rain I would say yes. Arizona is gorgeous but it is not for everybody as it is a harsh climate but definitely visit it and see how you feel. That is really the only way that you will know

only if you want a REALLY drastic climate change - and if you are thinking of moving to Phoenix - it is a lot bigger and more Urban than the U.P.

You hear more of people moving north these days, not south
