My friend has electric storage heaters in a top floor flat ( no gas ) and also cooking and water heating by electric. The place is always warm, not a lot of control but she pays less than £ 25 per week ( winter time) so I think it depends a lot on the property. This is a one bedroom flat and I suppose she gains a lot of heat from below.

I find mine quite expensive to run - but cheaper than an electric fan. If you have no central heating, and don't like the thought of a gas heater, then they are safe IMO, and cheaper than any other electric heaters, as far as I am aware.

can be expensive to run unless your home is well insulated.
lots of advantages over wood(logs to cut, ash to remove), gas cylinders (collection/delivery, safety issues, condensation), oil(delivery, storage, smell, safety)
some electric radiators can be programmed to warm the room to the temperature you want at different times of day, cooler in the morning and warmer in the evening.

I vote for LAWH's answer.
Unfortunately I don't have the 2 point yet to adequately vote for his answer with a thumb's up.

It creates a very dry heat - having a humidifier would be a good idea.
