Bobby Fisher was granted citizenship by Iceland because they took pity on his plight when he was arrested in Japan in 2004. Bobby Fisher was wanted by the US, for violating an order by George H.W. Bush for playing his 1992 match against Spassky in Yugoslavia, and was eventually caught in Japan, who were going to return him to the US to face trial. He then requested asylum in Iceland, and was granted citizenship, thus making him untouchable as long as he never returns to the US.
