It is a generalized question, and has been posted too many times to care about it anymore. Therefore, I will choose neither.

YES!--- but it's not quite what you might think. To hear what a tree falling in the forest when there is nobody around to hear it sounds like.

False, when trees fall they always make a sound.. It's like saying, if a heavy box falls and nobody is there to hear does it still make sound.

It's neither true nor false.
The first reason is it's not a statement - it's a question - you would need to rephrase it.
The second reason is that this is one of the most misunderstood problems in the west. You're not meant to give it a true/false response. It is an aide to meditation. You're supposed to open your mind to new possibilities and see where the question takes you. A yes/no answer to this question is completely pointless.

"sound" is an interpretation of the vibrations in the air which aural recepticals (ears) take in and process through the brain to interpret as "sound". If there are no ears to hear then all the tree falling does is vibrate the air, the sound is in the ear of the beholder.

yes it makes a sound. If a deaf person drops a vase, it makes a sound, even if noone else is in the room! It has nothing to do with ears. They just recieve sound.

well first, it does make a sound. just cuz no one is around, doesn't mean that no sound is made.
and second, there are living things that hear it, wild animals in the forest.
and third, the statement/question is false.
