This is the first Christmas that has felt like Christmas since my mum died before I started uni the last time.
For me, this year it was putting up the tree with old decorations (I hadn't done but had used other decorations each year), buying presents, and listening to carols that did it for me.
I hope you catch the spirit soon, and I do wish you a very happy Christmas. I think the not feeling christmassy happens to all of us on occasion...

You are not alone. Many of us feel like you do. All the tasks I usually enjoy such as putting up the Christmas tree, the holly and the ivy, the decorations, have been an uphill struggle and the Christmas cards were a chore this year. Those that have come through the post have been as gloomy or abbreviated and have done nothing for the general morale. There was something magical about Christmas which seems to have vanished. Recapturing magic is a difficult thing to do. You need somebody special to do it for, and if there are no young people around you, it boils down to "been there, done that" and there is no excitement. You need a little fairy dust, a few friends to celebrate with if you have no family, someone you can bring a little cheer to who is less well off than yourself. Giving small suitable presents is half of the fun, even when you see the lovingly done wrappings torn to shreds, and cooking for others is quite rewarding especially if, like the galloping gourmet, you have a bottle by your elbow. Perhaps counting one's blessings and playing the "glad game " like Pollyanna is the right solution. Good luck and a very happy Christmas to you, despite everything, in the end.

I'm glad to answer this question. Christmas is fun! Start by putting up a Christmas tree and decorating ornaments on it or putting a star on the top. Then, turn on the radio to listen to some Christmas music (this always works along with the tree). Then maybe decorate the house a bit and just hang up some stockings along the mantle of the fireplace - getting ready for the spirit of Christmas morning! Also, you could also write and make cards to your friends and family or maybe even wrap presents! Candy canes are good Christmas treats too! I hope you get into the spirit soon!!! Don't miss out on this once-a-year holiday! It's always fun! :)

Depends what you mean by the Christmas mood. If you mean thinking about why we have christmas, then how about going to a carol service at your local church? They often serve mulled wine afterwards - definitely helps with the festive mood.

I have never liked Christmas as much as I do this year, I started looking at childerns faces and how big their eyes get, how they get so excited! My son now 3 who is understanding Christmas more gets so excited everytime he sees a christmas tree or lights. I would just go somewhere where their are childern who are celebrating christmas.

I agree with BeachBum. Xmas movies are really good for the Xmas atmosphere. I also like to hang around the mall and window shop. There is all the Xmas music and decorations......

See a xmas film ? Treat yourself to a xmas thing you want. Go to a carol service, watch a nativity on the t.v. Try and remember all the words to "Little Donkey" or "Oh Little town of Bethlehem."
Happy Christmas to you

With all the shops blaring Xmas music and covered in tinsel, you actually want to do the same at home? Where will you retreat to?
