To have "clinched" a playoff birth means regardless of any other win or loss, you will be in the playoffs no matter what. Wins or losses may affect your spot, but you will still be there. And depending how many wins and losses you do have can also secure a specific spot in the playoffs.

If you clicnh a playoff spot, you automatically make it into the playoffs.
It depends on how many winsa and losses you make.

It is when that your record (Win-Loss) is so that even if you lose every single game from there on and the other teams in contention win every game, that you would still make the playoffs.
