There is no reason not to have sex while a woman is having her period other than asthetic ones. If it does not bother either one of you then it is certainly not physically or medically unhealthy. In fact, orgasms have been known to have a beneficial effect on cramps.
The second part of your question is a bit trickier to answer than the first part. IF, (notice I said IF) the woman involved is regular and seldom changes from that then it would be almost impossible to become pregnant while you are menstruating. It is important to utilize the same form of birth control that you using at other times. I know it is tempting to think that you do not need to use anything and it used to be considered a natural form of birth control. There is a tiny chance that you could get pregnant during your period but it is very unlikely. I know you will get letters from lots of people telling you that so and so got pregnant when she had her period but in all actuality the chances ARE very slim. However, when it comes to getting pregnant even very slim is too much. My advice would be to use birth control, even while having your period. Remember also that while the chances of getting pregnant may be very slim, having your period offers NO protection against STD's!
Good luck and take care.

If your aren't using any method of contraception then having sex at anytime is a gamble with regards to getting pregnant. Everyones body is different and although we have times when we are more fertile every woman has longer and shorter periods of when they have there AF and when they are most fertile. AF for me was only ever 2 days and my first daughter was conceived during this time. If you don't want a baby then don't take the risk.xx

It is fine to have sex while your on your period, but keep it protected if you dont want to get pregnant. It can be possible to get pregnant if you ovulate immediatley after your period. The sperm can live in your body for 3 to 5 day , sometimes longer and will be waiting for the egg when you ovulate.

You can have sex while you're on your period, although it's not so great, if you ask me. Don't listen to the rest of these idiots, though; although it is a lot less likely, you can still get pregnant if you have unprotected sex while you're on your period, plus you won't be protected against STDs if you skip the condom.
