I have my hd dvd player hooked up to my hd tv using the standard component cables that came with the x box 360 console.
My question is:
If I bought a vga cable and used it as the connection to my hd tv, would I get a clearer picture?
Is this cable more compatible for viewing hd images?
Thanks

Hi
I don't think the previous answers help you out much...here is one well-informed one I think would be of more use to you.
Component cables can carry the full HDTV resolution of 1080p, but many HDTVs cannot accept this through component video cables (the ones the 360 comes with). It is first important to find out what resolution your HDTV is capable of though, as many currently available only output up to 720p (Quite rude really!). In this case, just check that your TV is set up to recieve 720p images from it's component source (the 360) and set the screen resolution settings to 720p on the 360 itself. This will provide you with the best picture quality, and component cables are fine for this. Component and VGA cables offer almost identical picture quality; you would not notice a difference between them. If, however, your TV is cpable of full 1080p (not just i) pictures, then you should first try to set this resolution on the XBox 360 through component cables. When you select it, if the screen goes blank, you know your TV cannot accept this resolution through component cables. Leave the XBox for 15 seconds and it will revert to the previous set resolution and the picture will return to the screen. In this case, you may want to invest in the VGA adaptor, as your TV is more likely to accept 1080p images via VGA than component. Check in the manual first to see though, as if it doesn't, it's an unnecessary expense. The two cables are both analogue, and as I said before, there is really no distinguishable difference in picture quality. It is just a case of finding out what resolution your TV can accept, and from which connection. If you find your TV cannot accept 1080p through VGA, just use 720p untl Microsoft bring out an HDMI or DVI cable, then invest in that. Hope this helps! Look a IGN.com for more help if you need it, or email me.

PS:The difference between 360 and PS3 is nominal, don't worry about what these other people say. Microsoft is doing well with the 360, the PS3 faces a real uphill struggle! They are on equal grounds with regards to horsepower, but the 360 has much better games, online suport and rumble! Personally I'm a Wii-boy, bt out of the other two I'd have a 360.

properly i could get the Xbox 360 merely seeing it is an all around greater useful gadget for video games. It has great DVD high quality, even on a regualr television. i'm helpful that it may make the commonplace seem surprising on an HD television. I dont think of there is a great number of a distinction between that and the PS3 high quality different than the PS3 can play Blu-ray.
