I keep getting called emo because of how i dress/look and the music i listen to. I listen to bands like october fall, Patd, FOB, AFI,HIM, Rise Against, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Hawthorne Hewights and alot of others. I wear usually black skinny or flare jeans, with tightish band tees, white studded belts, vans, converse etc. and hoodies. I have snakebites and my ears peirced twice. I have black hair and wear black eyeliner and paint my nails black. Do you think that is emo because I don't think I am emo?

Snakebites are a lip peircing one on each side. And I used to cut could that be why they think that? And i don't think i am emotional or atleast not to emotional.

i agree with the first answer. when i started highschool a lot of people thought i was emo because of my hair, bag just coz it is black, the music i listen to which is emo lol and my attitude was a bit down for a week or so. As soon as they got to know me they were like there is no way youcould be emo coz i am very bubbly confident smiley happy person lol

being emo is a state of mind- are you emotional? depressed?
hating life? if not then you are probably not emo?

You listen to emo music and you wear similar clothing to emo people but to be honest being an emo is who you are, not what you look like. If you don't see yourself as emo, you aren't emo. Don't categorise yourself, be who you want to be. =]
And in response to the answer above, not all emo people cut themselves and there are plenty of goths who cut themselves too, I would imagine. There are many factors that one could use to define an emo, none of which is a particular deciding factor.

i dont think you're emo because i get called emo too but people say it because they think its a style but its not a style, its an emotion. i understand why people call me emo because i am very emotional...the music that i listen to and the clothes that i wear have nothing to do with people calling me emo. if you dont think you're emo then you're not emo. you are who you are... not what people say you are. oh and just because you're emo doesnt mean you cut your wrists

not emo, just misunderstood. l have my own style and such that may lead people to believe the same about me at times. but i think of it as an expression of my emotions and individuality. those who dont express themselves tend to be the most emotional!
besides, who cares what other people think? be true to yourself, nothing else matters.

u shouldn't let people define who you are... like what you like because you like it. I think people can have more than one demention like "emo"... be urself, its cool.
