It is best to bait your traps just before dark. Raccoons are most active at night and will find your bait due to the smell. They are also very wary so you might want to move your trap from time to time, especially of you have already caught one coon at the location. Chances are good that the other raccoons will avoid the trap because they may have been present when the first one was caught.

Good luck with your coon problem.

Racoons are nocturnal so set the traps before dark, Why stink up the area with sardines at $1.50 or so a can??? They eat anything and can't resist peanut butter. The problem is what to do when you catch one.....They are smart, strong, fast, and aggressive. You can lose a couple of fingers picking up the trap. They will easily find their way back if you don't move them far enough. Best bet is to notify your local wild animal control office

here in the city (Cincinnati,oh.) its against the law to trap and release (move). Health Dept. in some cities will let you use the traps and will take them to the SPCA (for free) here its $40 for coons and $10 for cats.
