It seems that the pirates want more than just melky..they say Atlanta's outta the deal and that the Braves are lookin do trade laroche to the O's for Roberts..Melky for Gonzo

I agree with oooopooponu - if the Yankees could have Gonzalez and only give up Melky, that's a great deal for them, and it would allow them to shop Farnsworth who didn't excel in his first season in NY.

The Pirates seem to really like LaRoche, they were trying to work something out with the Braves earlier this offseason. I'm not sure that I would give up a young closer that I controlled for a few more years for a young bat - pitching seems to be the hardest thing to develop, but they do have a lot of young pitching in the majors now and in the pipeline.

The latest I've been hearing though is that the Braves are out of the deal and the Pirates and Yankees are still trying to work something out - but it sounded like the Pirates were asking for more than just Melky.

This is a very bad deal concerning the Yankees. Melky Cabrera is only young and has a great career in front of him. He's full of speed and he is a great outfielder. Heck, he made the 2006 MLB Play of the Year! And now the Yankees want to trade him?! No way, am I going to accept that. Plus, then my Yankees Cabrera jersey will get old.

they say the yankees will get mike gonzales from the pirates and melky cabrera to the braves and adam laroche to the pirates which i think is stupid if the yankees do that melky is an outstanding player

I think my heart says I don't like the idea of trading Melky but my head says that Gonzalez is a pretty good setup guy and should do well in the Stadium. I don't like this trade but the Yankees should do it.

Mike Gonzalez is a great pitcher and is definately worth Melky Cabrera. The Yanks have nowhere to play him. The Pirates want a big left-handed bat and LaRoche qualifies as one of those.
