And what happens to the earthworm, after a big rain, when the soil is flooded?

when an earthworm's skin dries out it dies because it can no longer exchange Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen which it does through the skin.

if there is too much water i would guess that the earthworm might die also

They die. If the saturated soil washes them to the surface they are usually dead by then.

it dies. they come to the surface to escape death. then they get caught out of the ground and die. bad life the worm has.

Usually it drowns or gets stranded on the sidewalk and dies...
