South America starting from argentian anding all the way up in Mexico were lands full of native americans. When the Spanish came they conquered them and it was a period of destruction and rebirth. Those countries began to grow from zero. When they wree strong enough they had their fight for independence which only weakened them even more. Of course all this process took time. After their independence they had to grow even more and get back on their feet once again. Keep in mind that all of this happened only about 200 years ago. Not a long period of time for a country to grow too industrialized.
The US in the other hand, were Europeans who came to the North of Mexico and founded the first 13 colonies. There were no indians to fight them off, and the only indians that were there, were friendly to them and that is how we have thanksgiving day. So, as you can see, these people were already educated and had technology already superior to South American Countries. While these countries were fighting for independence and stability, the US was simply growing. One thing that also helped the US is that they got lucky. Spain had to give them Florida. They happened to buy Louisiana and didnt have to fight. The war with Mexico was simply a one man mistake from Mexico and they took a lot of states from Mexico. The republic of Texas chose to become a state after a war to win independence from Mexico.
So, you can see the big picture now.
1. South America is conquered.
2.US starts as the 13 colonies
3. South America is rebuilt.
4.US Grows
5. South America Fights for independence
6. US Grows
7. South America has to grow again from the devastation of war.
8. US Grows.
9.South America 3rd world countries
10. US Industrialized Nation
There you have it homie any question jus let me know

Resources !
As the Americas were "visited" by Western Europeans, South America was seen primarily as a source of rare metals and jewels, but not as suitable for colonisation as North America.
If the new Americans had not kicked the native Americans off their own land, there is a fair chance that North America would now be a collection of "smaller third world countries".
By the way, I think that at least the Uruguayans, Argentinians and Brazilians may be a little miffed to hear you refer to them as "third world"

way much better. The nature.. chicken here is tastes like actually real chicken and flowers smell like flowers. People is way much more relaxed and happy, friendly, welcoming, etc. Women are clearly better, spcially Colombians and Brazilians. People is not only interest in what happens to the country but to the whole world, unlike ¨americans¨. Big cities are like any other big city in the world, if you go a guetto in LA or NY, its the same.. not good and you -whether as a turist or as a resident- have nothing to do there. Culture.. people is used to party. A LOT. I live in Colombia, i'm fron Spain(loved it so much I stayed) I have been in the US, and its kind of cool, but for a week, not more. You might thinnk this is like the drug production world, it isn't. We don't use those things. I think South Americans are better prepared for future than americans, some don't even wanna go to college, I pay the college of the daughter of my house maid, she speaks english, she might not be a millionare, but will surely be better than her mother and propably her children will be even bbetter. And ovbiously rich people is so well prepared that it leaves you gringos with your mounth open, my cousins speak like 4 languages each, includind spanish english mandarin and french (or german) and they are 20 fukcing years old. that's nothing. Here in Colombia is very safe, I don't know what you think, but let me tell you something, it is true about ¨the only risk is wanting to stay¨ well, I did. And I buy things on the street, do road trips, go to party till like 9 am, have expensive handbags and watches... I drive a Mercedez-benz. It's alright. Plus, here I can have a gardener, a pool man, 3 maids, a girl for my nails who comes home, I can go to the hair saloon every week if I want. LIfe is much cheaper, happier, better in general.

Thanks for highlighting a huge gap in my education. . . my knowledge of South American history hovers disgustingly close to zero. To take a wild guess, I would say that natural resources attracted great industrial might and interest to North America, but that is a shot in the dark.
