Last time i went on Vacation for 1 month and i left my internet modem OFF (and my computer too) and when i came back from vacation, getting on the internet would take me like more than 15 minutes (signing in 2 da internet..i got Yahoo DSL) and it took like a MONTH to get my internet sign in back 2 normal. The internet would be fast, but signing in (like when i turned my computer on and wanted 2 go on the internet) would take FOREVER!!ANd i heard that ur supposed 2 leave it on when ur not gonna use it for a long time, but i don't want 2 leave it on 4 two weeks (that's too long don't ya think??) so idk what 2 do with my internet modem. Will 1.5 weeks of not having it on and not using it affect it's speed/ or signing in?

Well it doesn't really matter. You could leave it on if you won' nothing will happen, if you turn it off, its just off and the samething nothing will happen except uses more electricity.

It should be okay if you leave your modem on. It has a utility that puts it into "sleep" mode, so it isn't running but it saves all your settings and it doesn't have to find and store all your settings all over again. When you boot your computer there is usually a very brief message that says "Installing your Settings."

Some of these settings tell how your computer can work with your modem. But the modem has settings of its own that are stored in the modem that tell it how to work with your computer.

If you turn your modem off, it has a small rechargeable battery inside that will help store the information for several days.

But once the batter power runs down your modem loses all the information settings that it has stored. So when in loses this information, it has to learn all the things it needs to know all over again.

That's why it takes forever when you come back and then one day it's back to it's old self, it has found out and stored the settings it needs.

If you are worried about hackers, just unplug the computer, if you are worried about others in your family using your computer and running up time on your ISP bill, just take the power cord off the computer and hide it. The place where the plug goes into the computer has a different configuration that other things in your house that uses electricity, they won't be able to use another power cord.

*shrug* leave your modem on and your computer off. The modem is designed to stay on all the time (not like the old time dial-ups where it would matter because you couldn't get phone calls). Your computer, however, is another matter. You can shut that off and it shouldn't screw up anything. Besides 2wire modems take forever to find their signal again. Just leave it on.

Honestly, if you had a problem will it before, you should leave it on. Nothing is going to happen to it in two weeks, i don't know why you would want to turn it off anyway.

Yea I would just leave it on. If you want to take a extra step, lock down your firewall.
