We take for granted the basic utilities provided in a modern home. Just let a severe storm disrupt electrical service and see people go crazy trying to cope. Same can be said for natural gas, phone service, cable TV, running water, and sanitary sewerage disposal.

Electricity, I live in the country, and it seems that every time the wind blows the power goes out. Sine I live on a well for water and my appliances are electric, when the power goes out I'm SOL. if there has been a bad storm and there is alot of power outages in the area and it may take 24 or more hours to get repaired I have to go to a hotel.
So my electricity is the most taken for granted and most prized thing in my home to be taken for granted.

Central Heating - Back when i was a child, we had frost inside our windows, half hundred weight of blankets, hot water bottles and i would get dressed under the covers in the morning, this was after i had laid my clothes out under the covers whilst i went for a wash, and lino on the floor......

Got to be electricity - cos it powers the other things we take for granted - TV, cable box, stereo, computer, video, DVD & heats our water (unless you're on gas - & some of you are, quite literally!!!).
