Buy a few index ETFs such as DIA or QQQQ and write covered calls on them. You'll earn more than 7-8% a year, but I'm sure you'll be able to find something to do with the extra money, right?
As an alternative to using ETFs, you can do the same on stable uptrending stocks such as MSFT, TM, or something similar.
Good uptrending stocks can be readily found through many decent stock scanners such as with IBD (Investors Business Daily), etc.

San Juan Trust, symbol SJT, is a natural gas income trust that pays about 7% dividend. This is a pretty low risk stock. But you should read up a bit on how royalty trusts work first. I own this one.

Id Sudgest The gic its abreviated for garunteed income certificate key word being garunteed lol you cant loose your money and if you find a good interest rate you can make alot just a matter of not seeing that money for a while lol
