Toshiba is an excellent brand.
Before you go to the store, sit down and write a list of everything you want to do or could see yourself doing on the computer. After you gone over the list and removed the stuff you put on the list that you're really not going to do. Now - you go to the store and get the system that best suits your requirements.

I used a Toshiba for years and was very happy....however the last laptop I bought was an Acer. With pretty much the same setup the Acer was a couple of hundred bucks less.......and so far I'm very happy with it.

The best specs are bascally all the parts that are currently not going to be out of date soon. Such as the Dual Processors, atleast 1MB or ram, and a larger hard drive. These components are recommeded so that in future your laptop would still be in date. Also the graphics card are important, try getting a higher graphic cards.
