More to the point, have you ever SEEN an elephant with an udder? You'd think there would be a picture of one somewhere, if such a thing truly existed...

being mammals elephants have mammary glands (this is where the name 'mammal' originates) The young elephants suckle on teats connected to these milk producing glands in the same way a human child is breast fed. However, these are not udders. There are variations in the mammary gland arrangement dependent upon the species, for example, humans have two, dogs have eight. The number and arrangement of these glands and teats has developed to suit the number/size of the young. As elephants have one large calf they have developed 'breasts' as opposed to a many teated udder.

Only in bovines are the mammary glands refferred to as udders

no, though elephants do have mamory glands and breast for feeding their young, being mamalls, it's only cows that have udders.

Yes they certainly do (well, mammary glands anyway...called teats). They're just located between the FRONT legs, not on the belly like most other mammals.
