I want to hire my car out to a firm, and want to make a legal agreement so that the money is guaranteed and has a legal standing in court (if things go pear-shaped). How will I be able to do this without going through a solicitor? The agreement will have to include things such as mileage, parking tickets etc so that I am completely covered.

All help appreciated

I've made several contracts over the years... just write it out as explicitly as you can. As long as both parties sign and you have it notarized (it's free at my local bank), you shouldn't have a problem. I certainly haven't.

legally speaking a verbal agreement can form a contract, as can implied terms. however it is much easier to prove a case in court if the contract is written. it does not need to be drawn up by a solicitor for it to be 'legal'. so just write down all the issues that need to be covered then put them into a document in an easy to read format and get both parties to sign and date it. then keep it safe and make sure both parties have a copy.

A contract is formed when someone gives consideration for return of services or goods whether written or verbal.

For instance you enter into a contract with Tesco when you purchase goods from their store in consideration for cash.

As mentioned above it is best to put all salient and sometimes obvious issues into writing prior to any such undertakings to avoid any confusion from either party.
