It's the part of the Balkan Peninsula covering modern Greece and some parts "above" on the map. The term "Greek Peninsula" describes the southern part of the Balkan Peninsula. Notice the name: it's the Balkan, not the Baltic Peninsula for God's sake. (I am from Greece). And the coasts of modern Turkey were once a part of Ancient Greece, although Greek domination over these regions had been through various changes. There had been different cities developing in different eras of greek antiquity (Mycenes, Cities in Crete etc and much later Athens, Sparta etc), but during the age of Pericles there was great progress in the region of Athens, the islands and the coasts on the side of Turkey (Ionian civilization). I would love to be more specific but it would take more than a few words and I do not remember things precisely. Shame on me.

"Ancient Greece" is a convenient expression used by historians to categorise the group of city states that existed on the Greek Peninsula.

The Greek Peninsula could also be described as the Southern Baltic Peninsula would be too wide> The Baltic Peninsula stretches too far north to encapsulate what most people would recognise as "Ancient Greece".
