OK..I have a live trap I baited with tamales that one of our drivers brought to us. Caught one the first night. Rebaited the trap with more tamales...some of the tamales were eaten..some still there...I just added more, and I know have sardines. Should I go ahead & put the sardines in there now, or wait until later when it begins to get dark. I know there are at least 2 more.

1) tamales are made from deer & pork..so, i'm good to go there
2) NO..not keeping them as pets...they're tearing up everything...I have someone to come take care of them once i've trapped them.
3) I found sardines @ .58 a can...so...I think I'm good to go.

What was part one??? I hope you are not keeping these as pets. One- illegal and Two- extremely stupid. They carry a ton of diseases- so much that a lot of rehabilitation places won't accept them anymore. An animal does not have to show signs of rabies to have it, for just one example. Also, very vicious, no matter how cute a baby is- 90% will turn mean when they hit maturity.

If they are nuisance, to trap, you can use anything as bait- raccoons eat everything. Wet dog food would probably be the best, but they eat fish, fruit, etc. Anything with a strong odor will attract them.
Wait until about an hour before dark- they won't be moving around before then. You can set them earlier if it goes with your schedule. Either way, it doesn't matter.

I have 2 raccoons as pets, i say wait until it gets close to dark, & put the sardines in, that way the smell is fresh & strong, if they don't eat that, put tuna or chicken, or some eggs (right out of the carton, don't cook or crack) these will take a little while to eat (they LOVE eggs) since its slimy, thus the trap may spring & presto, you've caught them.... i just hope you're not going to kill them or anything....

Try hot dogs, and put a little bowl of water in there too. Raccoons love to wash their food & while they're washing the food, the trap will close on them.

Why tamales? Raccons like meat not sardines and tamales.
