Birth name:David Anthony Marchand Nickname:Dave/Davey
Height:5' 10" (1.78 m) In 1991 he started AFI (a fire inside) with best friend Adam Carson who played drums. After a few years they became pretty big in the underground music scene. With a few line up changes they released a new record in March 2003 - it was their 6th. Davey Havok was born in Rochester, New York. Davey got an early interest in punk rock when he was in his early teens, and formed the band AFI with drummer Adam Carson when he was 15. After many member changes throughout the years and 3 albums, the band became stable with a complete and powerful lineup including bassist Hunter Burgan and guitarist and new songwriter Jade Puget. The band progressed and took on a dark hardcore root, with gothic aesthetics and dark themes. resulting in the powerful and epic album 'Black Sails In The Sunset'. Their amazing and powerful live sets combined with their hardworking aesthetic, with many tours including many trips to Europe, resulted in a cult and large fan base, with a giant amount of fans often adorning themselves permanently with AFI tattoos. The Bands fifth album, 'The Art Of Drowning', continued the dark progression of the band resulting in a tighter, louder and darker album, which lead to more then 90,000 copies sold, a huge amount for an independent release. The large and cult following plus record sales led to major label interest, with Nitro records head Dexter Holland (frontman of The Offspring) being the catalyst in making AFI achieve bigger and better things, by letting them go from the label they had been on since 1995 and recommending they join a Major. The label that signed AFI was Steven Spielberg's 'Dreamworks' who allowed them to keep their artistic integrity. The resulting album was 'Sing The Sorrow' recorded at the famous Cello Studios by renowned producers Jerry Finn and Butch Vig. A progression from the post 'Black Sails' incarnation of AFI, with a more industrial and Rock feel along with their trademark feeling of despair and darkness, the album has sold more than 500,000 copies, certifying it gold. Not bad for an album that has been out little over a month, and a band that has been working hard for over a decade. Although not an actor, Davey has a likening for acting, but says he is restricted due to the amount of tattoos on his body. He likes to act whenever he can and whenever someone wants him, playing 'George' in Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore (1997) alongside Punk legend Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys. Davey Havok can be heard next in the coming December Animation/Puppetry film 'Live Freaky! Die Freaky' which he will play a character alongside other big names in the Punk scene including members of blink 182, Rancid, Green Day, X, The Vandals, Tiger Army and actor Viggo Mortenson of The Lord of The Rings trilogy.
