Actually...they only slap slap...never seen them flip or flop. That would infer that they actually leave the foot, and preform a revolution.

the left foot is the flip and the right foot is the flop, thus flip flops. on those occasion when the person is left handed they are allowed to call them flop flips. this is socially acceptable.

Well if you cannot distinguish between the flip and the flop go with the Oz and call them "thongs"

No there not. If you listen closely there is 2 different sounds, due to the wait on the foot. Before and after hitting the ground. I must be bored .
