You should report this to the State Department, Washington, D.C. or the post office will forward for you, also, you should give your passport number if known. You should have a copy filed away if you followed the instructions that came with your passport. Be sure to report this immediately as this has a value in some countries as high as $10,000 black market and it also can be used for illegal purposes. I never carry my passport in a foreign country, I only carry a copy and leave the passport in a safe deposit box. If you are currently traveling abroad, notify the nearest U.S. embassy immediately.
