I'm interested in the power to easily climb hills (Santa Cruz Mountains), reasonable gas mileage, and comfort (I'm a large German, don't want to feel squished in there) . . . why would my son recommend a Subaru? What models might be nice for me?

I've had an SUV (Nissan Pathfinder), loved it. My 'hill climbing' won't be in the dirt but on paved roads! Nearly BORN in a Jeep, I'm considering one, but want to follow up on Subaru as well.

There simply are no other manufacturers out there that produce cars that combine all the features of a Subaru--all-wheel drive, moderate price, strong reliability and outstanding safety (not to mention the availability of all of this in wagon form). The gas mileage is not as good as a comparable two-wheel drive vehicle, but it's a small price to pay for the added benefits. Since Subaru's system was designed from the ground-up to be AWD, it's more elegant and efficient than many systems added as an afterthought to 2WD cars.

I would recommend the Legacy or the Outback, since they are roomier than the Impreza or Forester and easier on gas than the B9 Tribeca.

The Subaru Impreaza model is great for the mountains. Subaru is greaton snow and ice. I've owned my Impreza for 6 years and it's a great car. You should go visit a Subaru dealership as they can help you. The Outback is a great model also. These cars are very roomey and have good gas mileage. But if you want one to climb mountains you can't go wrong with the subaru line as they are made for climbing.

Roomy spacious interior, well built, asymmetrical all wheel drive, plenty of aftermarket support for off-roadings and a rich history with th World Rally Championship. Plus they're a hoot to drive! Try a Forester or Impreza WRX. Visit nasioc.com.
