It's supply and demand. If the public support the awful "reality" TV and make so many brain dead people "celebrities" it perpetuates the problem. Vote with your OFF button.

Because the TV companies have totally run out of new ideas for shows because everything that can be done has already been done in the seventies. That was the golden age of TV.

I feel sad that i wasn't around to remember that era.

Also the number of cable and satellite channels has only served to dilute what little quality there still is.

Sky tv has a lot to answer for, you have to pay for it, when there were only 5 channels the programmes were slightly better ? !! I have Freeview I refuse to pay for trash, the licence fee is over the top, definately no value for money. As for Christmas TV forget it !!

The same reason so much music is awful. Those who write the material dumb it down for greed and the quick laugh or thrill. I just thank God for stations like PBS.

because when we started to pay for it by sucscribing to cable, they got greedy and began to look more at how to get more money than how to act and turn out watchable programs. Unless we rebel, it will get worse. And now, to top it off, we are supposed to pay for radio - Yeah- and they can get a life too. Not going to happen with me after what I "pay" for on TV.

not all of it is awful, but i admit that i've had to subscribe to satellite tv, due to the awful choice on the normal terrestial channels. the thing that i'm sick of at the moment is all the 'reality tv' shows...... i'm getting sick of them dredging up all those C list celebrities and making them do idiotic things.....

Probably because those in control of television are more concerned with disseminating their political agenda than producing quality programmes.

You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince.

Be more selective, don't watch the cr@p and it ain't that bad. Whatever you do don't watch Emmerdale.
