Um, fish lay eggs so they don't have a uterus to shed lining like mammals do.

Fecundantion, sexual intercourse, is external for the fish. Their eggs and sperm get mixed together outside of their bodies.
Your fish is just "showing her eggs" to show other potential males that she's ready to have little beta fish babies. This should dissapear when the "mating season" is over. If it doesn't, check with your vet.

This sounds like an illness of some sort to me. If your female was gravid (with eggs) it would show as her being very "swollen" through the belly.
It's very unlikely that she would be gravid unless she was in the same tank as a male for a few days.

HUH?...... If I had to make a educated guess I would have to say that it laying it eggs. Fish don't have sex they just lay eggs and then the male comes a lot and fertilizes the eggs.

I thought beta fish fight when they get near each other..but they are male and female...
You could bring it to a pet store and ask if she's having babies.
