My computer is acting up, its making a loud noise, its happen before and I thought it was the fan, so I cleaned it. Everything seemed fine for acouple days, then it started back up again (it also shuts off by its self every now and then) this time I used AVG virus protecor and cleaned the system, and it stopped.

Now its doing it again. I dont know if its the fan, or maybe a virus.

Any help?

Reinstall the operating system. This will reset everything to new again. Don't forget to backup anything you don't want to lose onto cd.

If the problem continues after the fresh re-install, then you know it is a hardware problem and not a software issue.

If your computer is making funny noises teh only places on your computer than makes noises are the hard drive, cooling fans, and processor fans. You should check each one immediately but I believe that most likely that it would be the hard drive, maybe you hard drive has a little crack on the inside, I had this problem before.

There are several possibilities to this problem. One it may be your power supply dying or not the correct wattage rating. Two it might be a virus or hacker at work. Or there might not be enough memory on your computer. These are the major conclusions I can come to. I would first test and see if the power supply is alright.

no virus can make your computer make strange noises other than with your FDD, witch you would recognise.
This most probably is a fan, bu it can be any one of them... You have a minimum of 2 fans i your computer. one on your CPU, the other on your power supply. You probably have one on your video card as well. Maybe even on your HDD. One of them is most probably causing the problem.

Probably soemthing wrong with you operating system. I encountered the same problem with my Win98, so I formatted the hard disk and installed Win XP and the noise was gone.
