If you have a firewall, you don't need to worry if anyone knows your ip (unless he has a keylogger or any other "backdoor" installed which the firewall is not blocking.
Use a good antivirus, a good anti spyware and a firewall and no one but a deserving candidate will be able to break into ur privacy.
In any case, gauge the knowledge level of your foe. If he is real computer wiz kid, then only you need to worry. Because getting private info (without physically accessing the pc) is not a piece of cake. (once again unless he is using some ready made keylogger or other backdoor)

its technically possible to access a remote computer knowing its IP address. however it gets much easier to access a computer which are in the same network i.e., LAN, or cable nets. no firewall or anti-virus product can completely stop a professional hacker from accessing the system

He can track where you are and your internet service provider.
Sometime if your firewall isin't on then he can access your computer also.Normally in you don't get a static ip address(In India). In this case your ip address changes everttime you connect to the internet. So he can't track you.

So just chill and turn your firewall on!
