Oxy-Clean is MUCH better than bleach! It's gets clothes whiter and it doesn't eat the fabric.

I used to work at a plant that had a lot of coal. My socks were filthy, despite much washing and bleaching.

One wash with Oxy Clean and they were white like new. This was several years ago. I've used Oxy since. Also, my clothes aren't "worn" like they are with bleach.

Now, I only use bleach for sterilizing the kitchen and bathroom.

Any oxidizer will bleach materials by chemically altering a stain into a colorless compound . Commonly chlorine gas dissolved in water makes up the chlorine type of bleach ,but other oxygen based bleaches work also and are usually in the form of dry powders added to detergent mixes .
Formulations are very similar so the cheapest brand is usually the best buy.

If you don't want to directly put bleach on your clothes you could use like a Tide with Bleach Alternative...
I did some searches on bleach and it looks like Clorox has the market cornered!
Good luck.
