Due to money
In June of 2006, Six Flags announced it was considering closing or selling up to six of its parks, including Elitch Gardens (Denver, CO), Darien Lake (Darien, NY), WaterWorld (Concord, CA), Wild Waves and Enchanted Village (Federal Way, WA), Splashtown (Spring, TX), and Magic Mountain (Los Angeles)/Hurricane Harbor (Various). [1] In addition, Six Flags also announced the sale of Wyandot Lake in Powell, Ohio to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, which is located next to the park.

Well they closed Six Flags Astroworld here in Houston. It was really sad Astroworld has been around for years. It was right by the Houston Astrodome and we heard that 6 Flags was offered a tremendous amount of money for the property so they didn't to close it. It's sad because a place as huge as Houston doesn't have an amusement park now.

We went to six flags I think four times this summer in Atlanta and there was hardly nobody there any of the times we went. I heard about them closing some of the parks and they say that it is because they are not making enough money to keep updating the rides. People want higher nad faster rides and I know the six flags in Atlanta just doesnot have that many really good rides. They have Goliath which is the tallest one there and superman, batman, the Georgia scorcher, and some other coasters but they just can't keep up to date due to lack of money. And also there are so many theme parks popping up around them that people don't have to drive as far to go ride the rides of the theme parks.

To my knowledge Six Flags is still solvent (in general). However, they may be closing parks due to negative revenue in certain areas.

Theme parks take up a great deal of land, and when the land value outweighs profits, they often close to sell the land for other construction, such as housing or industry.

This is a pestilential practice - as I think that them parks add a great deal of value to a community - and they're fun!

But corporations don't see things that way - money is money and they want profit over everything else.

Also - not all 'closures' are permanent - some are for refit or redesign and construction within the park. So some of the 'closures' may be temporary, simply for refit...

Still think closing them sucks rocks though...

Six Flags Magic Mountain is closing down because they just aren't getting attendence anymore. It's way too expensive and their main attendence were teens... and they are dropping like flies since admission cost 60 bucks, parking cost 12 and food doesn't drop below 15 bucks for two people.
The owner denies it is for these reasons, but if they were making a profit, I doubt they would be so eager to close down.

I believe the Parent company filed bankfuptcy. But as of right now all of the parks are NOT closing. Howerver that could change at any time. I tend to doubt that Disney will buy them since some of the parks are in cold weather areas, such as NJ and Massachusetts and besides, Disney doenst need them.

I hope they're not closing them all. I heard about Magic Mountain in California. I now wish I'd went there while visiting there last summer. I grew up going to Magic Mountain.
