I am thinking of getting a Creative Audigy 4 sound card, and I was wondering if there would be an audible difference between sound produced by that versus my motherboard sound. Not technically a difference, but a real, audible difference.

Thanks!

maybe, but unless you upgrade or have a good sound system to project the music, it will have minimal gains.

Lordy, YES! I play quite a few DVD's on my comp while the other family members are in the LR watching boob tube. I bought SB Live! 5.1 and a set of $100 5.1 speakers and the difference was AMAZING! Even gamers will tell you this.

It depends on what you want to do with it.
With games, you get a few extra frames because the sound card offloads some work.
But to me its not worth it. If you have a sound card, use it.
If not, just settle for the mobo card. they AC97 cards are pretty decent.

When it comes to sound, I cant tell the difference in my $200 speakers.
Have fun!

no ... get a good set of speakers .... if u have 5000$ speakers u might notice a difference upgrading to an audigy ... i would say only go to a high-end soundcard if u need its other features or connectivity options ...
