Cell-Sorb bedding! It's more expensive but it WORKS! 3 rats should not smell that bad. I had 4 in my bedroom and there was hardly any odor. You need to throughly clean the cage at least once a week! Are you taking everything out and washing it?

I used to raise rats and they do tend to smell. Personally I think mice are worse. Having three rats in a cage will need plenty of changing of the bedding material. I always used the pine shavings. Make sure the water bottle doesn't leak into the shavings which will increase the odor.
Giving the rats away or selling them to the pet store will almost guarantee they will end up as reptile food.
Good luck... rats really can be the best rodents to keep as pets.

Well, I feel for you. I know how attached you can get to the little guys. Although we have never had a female. We have had 2 males and they have been little princes. Not stinky at all. Maybe the girls are marking their territory and need separate cages. I wish you luck..........
