Neither - chickens are hatched.
Chickens can be traced back to reptiles. Reptiles evolved into flying reptiles, evolved into birds, some of which evolved into chickens. Reptiles where hatched generation after generation, gradually looking more and more like chickens until they look like the chickens we see today. This is why birds and reptiles have so much in common - for example, eggs, chicken feet are very reptilian (scales, claws).
