Um... If you need help to teach a class then maybe you should take a class. Try English 101 for starters.

I think it depends on the age group. Most importantly, treat the class and their questions with respect but maybe leave room for some humor. There are going to be a lot of nervous giggles. Be prepared to answer a lot of random questions about getting pregnant--if you check out the pregnancy and planning part of Yahoo answers you'll see that a lot of people have questions about getting accidentally pregnant in certain circumstances. Most sex ed classes feature how to put a condom on a banana--if the school board will allow it, see if you get a vibrator or dildo for a more realisitc representation--most students are too busy mentally laughing at the idea of a condom-wearing banana to pay attention to how to correctly put one on.

I would also focus a lot on STD's. Check out medical textbooks and see if you can show pictures of genitalia with STDs on them. It's very gross-so it will definitely get their attention. It's one thing to blather on about herpes and gonnorrhia but actually showing students oozing sores with puss on them will make the message hit home. There was also an article in Jane magazine earlier this year called "I Hate Tumors" about a girl who died from cervical cancer. Certain forms of HPV, a STD, are thought to be the cause of most cervical cancers. There'a a vaccine for it out now. I'm sure you can get a reprint of the article from Jane--it was one of their most popular feaures. I think students are able to understand the consequences of irresponsible sexual behavior in a way that relates to them, they will learn better.

Also, while I think stressing abstinence is a good idea, I think you should also teach the students that a certain amount of heavy petting and curiousity is healthy. Some people may disagree, but let them know that masturbation is OK and that the more they get to know and respect their bodies, the more likely it is that when they're ready for intercourse, they'll not only be more responsible, but they'll also enjoy it more. Good luck!

Undo the lies, fables and half truths the kids get from one another.. It is possible to get pregnant while on your period: a girl can get pregnant even though he pulls put; Oral sex is sex and IT is possible to pass STD's through oral sex; condoms don't prevent genital herpes or HPV and they can be transmitted even though there are no visible symptoms; douching doesn't prevent pregnancy or STD's; where to get free condoms; when to use the pregnancy test; how often to have a HIV test; the morning after pill; male contraceptives; the list of ignorant beliefs seems endless ....I do wish you the very best and hope you can save a few lives.

There are several Sex Ed Curriculums available online. Find the one that you and your administration are most comfortable with.
