Eh? Where do you think books are going to go?!
I do admit I'd rather look something up online or on a free Etext site than go to a library--but I find books completely indispensible! While I am annoyed that they don't have a search function (I'm one of the people who wishes life itself had a search function, haha), you can't really live without books.
There are some people that have problems reading TONS of text on screens--even ebook screens. Books are much more calming and soothing, and much less headache inducing.
Plus, data storage on computers is very faulty; one problem and all your books can be gone! It's much harder to destroy a collection of printed books.
For text books, computers would be a good alternative, though! I hated breaking my arms carrying around text books in school.

There will always be printed books, because not all the information you find on the net is correct or (in some cases) coherent
Books go through a pretty rigorus process of fact-checking and editing.
There are more than a few people who dislike e-books because it strains their eyes and they prefer holding an actual book.

We may go to more printing on demand but I think the book will be around for a while yet.

They will be with us for a long time yet. Books are an efficient information repository, and can be passed from hand to hand. They can also be taken places where electronic books can't yet go -- on wilderness hikes, or canoe trips, for instance. Books don't run out of batteries, and are easier on the eyes than a computer screen is.

better than many people think. It remains an exceptionally convenient means of storing information in a way that is easy for the user to retrieve. It is fairly portable, and needs no special equipment to use it.
