There's an old saying: "The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else".
One of the best ways that really helped me with a break-up (15 years ago)
1) Get involved in something that will keep your mind off your ex.
2) Start a new hobby (swimming, cycling, weight lifting, etc)
3) Join a dance club, learn to dance, try something bew.
4) Go back to school, take a fun class, learn another language.
5) Celebrate your freedom
6) Do not call your ex
7) Change your number
8) Meet other people
9) Be Picky
10) Next time you look for love, you need to make sure what you
really want in a releationship.

Hard one.
Do things you like to do , meet friends and do nice stuff, after a while it will get better. I'm not good in forgetting someone I love , I use to forget to remember to forget ;-) So I'm not a good adviser.
Good luck

Tell her: Stop burning bridges and drive off of them, so i can forget about yoo-oo-ou. (Fall Out Boy.) But seriously, go out with your friends to a bar or club or something. Ryan Ross wrote a song about a similar occasion....it's called "But It's Better If You Do" by Panic! At The Disco.

Start loving yourself. Or maybe others in your life. In fact this person that you want to forget, maybe you should continue to love them...you just don't need to own them.

Why would you want to?
Because they don't love you anymore? So what! Remember the good times and reasons that you love(d) them. No reason to throw away that part of your life.
Because they've died? Why would you want to? Remember the good times and reasons that you loved them. No reason to throw away that part of your life.
In either case, just move on. Time and interaction with others will bring healing.

You never forget them, but as time passes the emotional pain eases and you find it easier to think less and less about them.

You can't. They will always be in your heart. You have to put them into a corner of your heart and deal with them as best you can when they make an appearance.

I think that depends on your age, how long you have loved him/her and/or past experiences in love. You may never forget.
A lobotomy? A head injury might do it? Or a new love may take over your heart and help to erase....it depends on what you'll allow. :)
