Alot of the answer depends on you and your age and situation. Here are some thoughts?

1. Is it a regular problem or did it just pop up rather suddenly (past couple days or weeks)?
2. Do you fall asleep fast but wake easily?
3. Does it take a while to fall asleep but then you can't wake up?
4. Waking up early can be a sign of a couple of things.
5. What do you do just before you fall asleep, do you eat, drink alcohol, watch tv...

The reason I ask these questions is to let you know that sleeping problems do not have easy solutions. Think about the following and go with what seems to work for you.

First, if it is rather recent, you may be stressed about an upcoming event or something bad that just happened. If it is more of a trend and seems to be getting worse, it can signify depression or anxiety. Not the kind that requires drugs or the like...but an indicator that your body is much more stressed than you might think. If nothing is wrong and you are really basically happy and can't sleep...then think more about habits.

Watching TV late can cause sleeping problems. Irregular sleeping habits confuse your body. Eating late can be bad...if within the last two hours that you are awake. Additionally, alcohol is not your friend when it comes to sleep.

Routine is what works best.. Plan when to go to bed and only do that in the bedroom. Avoid tv, eating and distractions. Make your body see the bedroom as the sleeping place.

If none of these seem to work..then again consider that waking at 4am is a typical sign of depression or anxiety. Check to see if you are having other symptoms that show your stress.

If none of this works. Try going to your doctor and learning more about what is going on with you. I can't tell your age but there are medical problems that can cause sleeping problems. Like kidney problems. But this is highly unlikely.

Good luck...and read up on getting better sleep habits.

first of all can you relate this change to anything that happened around that time? if not then maybe going for a walk might help if you live near the sea breath deeply to get the oxygen moving in your body, sleeping pills are not the answer,i became an insomniac at 15 just started suddenly and i tried loads of things, but a brisk walk and sea air often helped.or swimming is also good. there are a few remedies in the health shop that might help you, that are less damaging to the body than sleeping pills

Hi, it could be a whole number of things. You maybe worried about something that is keeping you awake at night. What type of sleeping pills were they Herbal or prescription. I have been having trouble sleeping also and i tried nytol but they dont seem to work for me. Passiflora is a good on to take you have to take it during the day to and at night and it helps alot. But there are others also my dad was taking Ashwaganda and Gotu Kola and he said they were brilliant at getting him to sleep. All the listed above are herbal and have no side effects but can not be used with some other medicines so its bst to go and have a word with your Homeopath in your local store.
When you go to bed is your bed comfortable or are the bed clothes you wear confortable for you. I know i have trouble sleeping if i wear some ofmy bed clothes as they tend to go all loose and ride up. I have also found i must of been getting cold in the night even thoguh i didnt feel cold when i wrapped up for bed i sleept all night.

Oh i might know this, i work at Holland and Barrett. I'd suggest Valerian Tablets or chammomile tea. You could also try some lavendar essential oil on your pillow, that might help. If it's down to stress then you could take a B complex tablet which helps the nerves in your brain to relax.
Hope it helps

It could be many different things- drinking a lot of Starbucks, having a busy mind, not getting enough exercise, possibly excited or worried about something, alcohol consumption. Tire yourself with exercise and try the herb Valerian.
