You know the type, the ones who skip out on college to pursue drinking and drugs, and going against "the system". The type who usually end up in jail.

I like this question. It's one I've often asked myself. But, the people I'm concerned about are usually people I know.
For me, it's a cycle of suffering. I don't want to feel powerless to another's influence. So, I worry about this. And, this doesn't feel good. I search for an antidote. And here's what I find:
If another person thinks negatively, they suffer.
I know how this feels.
I'm sorry that he or she suffers.
I take responsibility for healing this negative thinking (that doesn't mean that I try to fix them. I can't do that. But, I can fix the suffering I feel from them in me.)
So, I choose to be positive and self-caring.
I mentally give all the merit of this choice to the other suffering person.
I have no doubt that you can do this. And, when you do, many people will benefit.

Well, for one...don't hang around them too much or their attitude/lifestyle could rub off on you if you don't watch out!!
You just have to continue down your own path and not let them influence you.
There is no way to change them. They are the only ones who can alter their habits/choices. Sooner or later they'll either change, due to something happening, or they won't.
Use their example as the opposite of what you do!
