MY sister has lung cancer, at this time she is very weak, will need blood transfusion next week. No one in the family has even decorated their house or bought gifts.
All we do is cry and pray.

I am so sorry to hear about your sister and this is such a hard time of year to go through this. Check with the hospital and your church for any support groups available to you. Even grief support could help with you work with your emotions. Sometimes you need more than just your family since everyone is hurting so bad. Your family needs support, love, and prayers for your sister as well as yourselves. I will say a prayer for your sister and your family, too.

I'm not sure if you questioning not having any Christmas spirit. Don't worry about that, God knows your heart. My Dad passed away 2 weeks before Christmas, unfortunately we all cannot be the same as my 5 yr old daughter at the time. Who looked at it simply that Granddaddy was spending Christmas with Jesus. If my kids hadn't been so young, I would not have done anything.

I'm so sorry to hear that your sister is going thru such a hard time -- it would be bad any time of the year, but with it being Christmas, it's understandable that it would be even worse both for her and all of you who love her.

My family is in a similar situation this year, so I really understand not feeling like getting into the decorating and shopping part of the season this year....we're not doing much of it either.

I never realized it until lately, but just watching TV this time of year, when you're going thru something hard, is really difficult. I find myself really resenting all those happy people in commercials and the constant promotions to buy, buy, buy. It really makes you sit up and realize how commercialized Christmas is -- it's as if spending money is the only thing that matters.

This year it sounds as if your family is more into the true reason for the season, as is mine. Sometimes there are just more important things than Christmas trees and running up the credit card bills.

I'll keep your family in my prayers and hope that next year both your family and mine will be able to enjoy more of the other aspects of Christmas, and maybe be a little wiser for having had to go thru hard times so that we keep things within reason.

Somebody needs to break this cycle right now before it is too late. This is a Christmas and everyone needs to celebrate. She won't have any energy to decorate anything so you need to help this year. Why don't you roast a few chestnuts and bring it to her as a snack? Also, a little scented cinnamon stick may help reduce nausea from chemo too. Just bring a little basket of pinecones or something.

Try bringing some hot chocolate over to your family or take initiative and volunteer to bring some gifts just to bring some holiday cheer. Everyone will hopefully be in a more positive mood and that will help your sister, letting her know that she has a great family supporting her all the way. Happy Holidays and best wishes to your sister and her family. (:

I think skipping the Christmas celebration in your case might be a mistake. Scale it down for sure. but give some pleasure to your sister. It will also bring pleasure for the rest of the family. It wil make you step away from the pain of what is happening. Ar thre children in your family? There you go!

Try contacting a local church - some programs you do have to sign up for.
Maybe have a family friend or relative call for you.

Being sick at Christmas can be a lonely time.
