I personally use AVG on 8 of my computers and Avast on 2 others. I like both and they both do a great job. "Babe19" is correct. You must remove Norton. If not it will conflict with the new antivirus program.
I have provided two links you will find useful.
This link is loaded with freeware..

Well basically there are two things,On your Internet explorer down load the Yahoo tool bar which comes with anti virus security. The other one is Window security.Go to Microsoft website and down load anti virus, firewall and malicious software removal tools.Window software will detect it as well as Yahoo software will detect it.But only window software can delete it or quarantine it for safer use.

You can run a free online scan from Trendmicro. When I have tested it it takes some time to run it but it may be time well spent if it can fix any problems.
Download and run http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
