The key thing you are going to be discussing is the Reformation. Do some research and see what the Catholic church was like in the years leading up to Martin Luther starting the Protestant Reformation. You can discuss both the power and influence of the church, the corruption of the church, and efforts to reform it from both within and without. Then discuss the various reormatin movements and the religious wars, the Inquisition, etc. Then in the end you can examine the power and influence of the Catholic church after all of the changes and wars etc. Hope this helps.
